Loop

Loop

SeptiLoop is a near-patient in-vitro diagnostic that detects sepsis-induced immunosuppression based on a functional immune response. Using 1 mL of whole blood, the test measures TNF-α production after LPS stimulation and then reads a lateral-flow strip, providing an assessment of immune competence in <3 hours. It’s designed for Emergency Department triage to predict bloodstream infection earlier than culture and to support same-shift antibiotic decisions.

Key features

  • Clinical value: Identifies immune paralysis characteristic of sepsis; supports rapid triage and treatment decisions.

  • Performance (studies): 91% sensitivity and 80% specificity vs. non-infected; predictive values at typical prevalences: PPV 72–78%, NPV 92–94%; ~2–3× higher sensitivity than clinical scores (qSOFA, NEWS) or biomarkers (PCT, CRP).

  • Early signal: Can detect from the first hour of bloodstream infection; 90% sensitivity for predicting positive blood cultures.

  • Sample & workflow: 1 mL whole blood → add reagent & mix → incubate at 37 °C for ~2.5 h → apply to cartridge → read in ~20 min.

  • Turnaround: Total time under 3 hours; enables same-shift decision-making.

  • Equipment: Only a standard thermoblock is needed; simple 5-step procedure.

Handling: Easy storage at ~5 °C.
